A brief history of danculberson.com

October 2000 – I purchase the domain danculberson.com and set up an embarrassingly designed site that tells a bit about me, my writing, and some of the stuff I’m doing at NBCC Saint John.
February 2002 – I am a volunteer at the ECMA’s in Saint John, New Brunswick, and I’m looking for somewhere to journal my experiences at the event. This site becomes my blog for the purpose. Over the next few years and through several redesigns the blog covers my personal rants, poetry, battles with premiers, and generally acts as a crappy journal.
November 2004 – I am becoming increasingly interested in photography and become obsessed with great photoblogs–many of which are still going today. Sites like Chromasia, Greyscalegorilla, and Daily Dose of Imagery inspire me to switch danculberson.com to a photoblog. For the first year, I post a photo on 357 of the 365 possible days. The site is nominated for a photobloggie, the local paper writes an article about my photoblog and the project leads to all kinds of neat photo jobs and projects. Over the next few years I continue to add and take things away from the photoblog periodically. I move my music related photography to a new site, Shoot the Band. I start a 1 per week portrait project on people in my hometown called 52 in Saint John. My interest in daily photoblogging slides as I become more interested in photography as a way to tell stories.
November 2009 – There must be something about the fall. danculberson.com the photoblog comes to an anti-climatic end. I delete the photos and attempt to re-organize my old photos by project. Shoot the Band and 52 in Saint John continue as my photoblogs. This site becomes the hub for all of the online stuff I do. It takes on the written blog format again, hopefully developing into an archive for my thoughts on online communications, photos, advertising, imagery, and a place for people to check in to see what I’ve been creating.
It’s all about me. Here it is. There is still much to be done.
