I love the people who ended up hidden in these photographs of uptown in the early or late sun.
The thing about using photography to explore the world is that projects tend to lead from your intended subject to something unintended. Perhaps this is why I’ve never been able to properly complete a series of photos or a visual story. By the time I get a good part of the way through one thing, I’m curious about something else.

I started out thinking about the color of sunlight and shadows, and somehow that became about the shadows cast on South End structures. But all of the photos so far double as a study in how different windows reflect or don’t reflect different types and colors of light.
And now I’m thinking about the people dwarfed not just by structure by the shadows in these photos as well.
Also, when other people talk about how beautiful snow is, I tend to think of a pile like the one pictured below. Winter is dirty and cold and mostly miserable.

Go back to the first photo, and then look at the 2nd. The above ground powerlines were recently buried on Princess, like they are in most cities. Kind of a shame if you ask me, which I realize no one did.
The above ground powerlines are an important part of the weirdly beautiful Saint John aesthetic for me.
