Living in the Sight of Water

Living in the Sight of Water

Sometimes I make a photograph that isn’t like the sort of photographs I usually make. Sometimes it’s a conscious thing, and sometimes it just happens, and I’m surprised by the result. Surprised because it’s so far removed from what I expected, and yet it does resonate with me quite strongly. I’m never quite sure if those photographs are a one hit wonder or a launching point for something else — a new series or project or direction. And so, I try to figure out why it resonates, but until I explore it further by going back there over and over, I never can. And yet, it’s not often I make a photograph as good as the first one.

This is one of those photographs. I made it a few days ago and I can’t get it out of my head.
