This is the find that kicked off my most recent day when I rescued a bunch of old albums and old slides. I walked into a local second hand store, not expecting to find anything. The owner of the establishment was preparing to rip the photos out of this album in order to just sell the album by itself. I paid $2 for the whole thing and rescued it.

I suspect this album was important to somebody at some time.

Some of the scans have weird streaks and rings. That’s because I didn’t pull all of the plastic off of this album before scanning.

I haven’t done much research into who these people might be. A challenge for those of you who always go off Googling when I post these.

There are no markings to indicate the date. I suspect it is shot on 35mm from the look and image sizes.

The inside cover of the album starts with a neat newspaper article. Very detailed. I have no idea if that means the people in the wedding were important, or if newspapers were just particularly local and boring at that time. The back of the newspaper article has a chopped up article about a new mine opening in Bathurst, New Brunswick.

As some of you know, not only do I take photos, sometimes I play the role of photo rescuer. My collection is starting to get to a decent size, and this morning I scored a bunch of great old and abandoned photos from a local shop. Part of the rescue included this album of photos that included all kinds of neat details.

The inside cover of the album (below) reads:

Based on some early Googling, I believe this to be the same Richard B. Heward mentioned and captured in video here on Canada’s Veterans affairs website. In his remarks, Mr. Heward mentions being from Montreal, enjoying skiing, and an association with a Norwegian family–all of which can also be found in the photo album.

This 2005 obituary mentions that Mr. Heward came to live in Rothesay, which explains how the album came to this part of the world. Unfortunately, there isn’t any mention of surviving family members to whom I could turn the album over. If you know of a family member or personal connection, please let me know.

There were blank pages in the album, which I did not scan.
